An open letter from our founder

Dear teachers, school and camp directors, and parents,

On behalf of all our High Touch High Tech scientists across the nation, and around the world, I would like to thank you all for boldly pursuing our science experiences for your students and children.

This has been a very challenging year for us all. Our passionate scientists will continue to inspire our children to become the next generation of scientists that will develop the lifesaving vaccines and medications that have made the end of this pandemic tangible.

The pandemic certainly changed how we engage with your students, driven by our desire to stimulate imagination and curiosity, we took our unique and inspiring programs and pivoted to deliver them as science kits to the students. Our scientist would then lead the science experience adventure by Zoom. While our fun scientists enjoyed the Zoom delivery of our programs, we are all anxious to work with students in person, and watch their faces light up with discovery. While this pivot is working well, we are all looking forward to bringing our hands-on science experiences back into the classroom.

As I have long said, our High Touch High Tech programs can be delivered anywhere learners are and can engage in exciting ways to learn. Because of this we can stimulate young minds, activate new curiosity, and nurture budding imaginations. This has been our approach for the last 29 years. We all have seen that following the science is bringing us out of this pandemic, and sparking curiosity among your students and future scientists assures us the world will continue to become a better place.

Scientifically yours,

Daniel “Dinosaur Dan” Shaw

Founder, High Touch High Tech

The scientist is motivated primarily by curiosity and a desire for truth.

Sizzlin’ Science Summer Camps

Many of the schools and organizations who choose to book
summer programs with us, continue to book year after year. This may be a result
of the benefits that teachers and parents see when their students are involved
in summer learning programs.

Studies suggest that students lose roughly a month of
learning during the summer. Though a child can regain much of the knowledge
lost during summer break, it is important to remember that learning loss is
cumulative. Many believe that over time, the summer slide directly contributes
to the achievement gap between students of different socioeconomic backgrounds.

One of the most common reasons for deciding against summer
learning opportunities is a matter of cost or funding. High Touch High Tech
recognizes the importance of making summer programming accessible to every
student, parent, teacher, and schooling district. We will always put the
ability to educate our community first, by providing the same high quality
science experience at every location, accepting grant funding for programs, and
giving every student the opportunity to receive the high-quality STEM education
that they deserve.

Often the schools that book High Touch High Tech for summer
camps year after year also choose to take advantage of our low priced, high
quality elementary programs and after school enrichment programs. We offer a
range of program types in such a wide variety of grades and academic settings
because we realize how important it is for students to have access to hands-on
STEM education year-round. We believe this creates an environment that is
conducive to prolonged interest in the STEM fields and sets students up for
academic success.

High Touch High Tech of Chicago “Gets Buggy” with Beacon House

At the end of July High Touch High Tech of Chicago had the pleasure of teaching the students of Beacon House the difference between a bug and a spider. The students got to learn and have FUN while examining real bugs and even making a bug that they could eat!

Barb Karacic of Beacon House loved the program just as much as her students! Read her testimonial below.

“I just wanted to let you know how perfect this class was for our students.  They were engaged and very excited.  I am so glad we finally touched bases and you were able to schedule a class for us.  I hope to have more classes this fall with our after school homework club.  THANK YOU!”  -Barb Karacic

Kids Go “Bonkers for Blood” with High Touch High Tech of the Bay Area!

High Touch High Tech of the Bay Area provided a scientist Discover Camp at Union City, CA. Operated by Union City Leisure Services, the theme for 2011-2012 was crime fighting “Biology Brad” led the kids through fingerprinting, blood typing, and biological sleuthing with “Forensic Fun” and “Bonkers For Blood.”

The kids lifted fingerprints and typed them, made lip prints, modeled the blood barrier with a density bottle, made simulated blood to take home, and even performed a blood typing puzzle! The campers ranged in grade from 1st through 6th, and everyone learned a lot and had a terrific time.

High Touch High Tech has served Union City Leisure Services’ Discover Camp for three years in a row. The campers are always excited when the scientist arrives with TOTALLY FUN, TOTALLY HANDS-ON science activities! Many thanks to Ms. Ashley “Pecan” Blank for her tireless coordination and support for rigorous science education.

Summer Science FUN at The Lab

Long summer days are full of fun with baseball games to bike rides to hours spent doing nothing but daydreaming. But summer vacation is also the perfect time to keep your child’s brain buzzing with hands-on science experiments, from hunting hurricanes and counting constellations with weather and astrology to classifying geodes and befriending beetles with geology and entomology. You may think that combining science with summer vacation sounds like a parental pipe dream, but with all the time for child-directed learning and hands-on experimentation, summer is a kid scientist’s dream come true!

One such place to explore the many wonders of science during the summer is The Lab in Wellington, Florida where High Touch High Tech of South Florida hosts week long camps all summer! Camps are geared toward children ages 4-12 years old and can be modified to accommodate children with special needs. From erupting volcanoes to exploring the rainforest, campers are kept engaged and interacting all day long.
