Sounds Like Senior Science!

Dinosaur Dan has done it again. He arrived at Fayes Place, Jewish Family Services, with all the materials needed to lead the seniors in exciting sound experiments. They observed sound waves and built their own musical string instrument! Learning is ever lasting in our world of curiosity.

  1. In this Senior Science program they are examining how an eardrum works. They have grains of salt inside the cup. The plastic wrap acts as a membrane , much like the eardrum. When a tuning fork is struck and put next to the cup, the vibration moves the salt crystals around. This is similar to the ossicles, tiny bones inside the ear, and how vibration creates movement that is interpreted by the brain as a specific sound.
