Combating Corona: HT2 Science Perseveres

“The measure of intelligence is the ability to change.”

Albert Einstein

Coronavirus commotion can be seen everywhere from breaking news articles, trending social media posts, canceled vacations and drastic control measures taken by governments across the world. The COVID-19 outbreak has permeated China since December 2019 when the outbreak was identified and has continued to be spread to more than 60 other countries and counting. Chinese citizens have been placed under lock down and travel restrictions since late January 2020, with estimates reporting that these quarantine measures may remain in effect until late April 2020.

For HT2 Science, High Touch High Tech’s Chinese brand, learning has continued amidst this crisis. Shopping malls, food markets, schools, factories, and all centers of commerce have been affected to restrict and control the spread of the virus in China. HT2 Science has identified a solution to alleviate the cabin fever that our students are facing and deliver them an exciting STEM lesson from the safety of their homes.

High Touch High Tech believes that learning can take place anywhere that learners gather, including where sequestered students have been confined. HT2 Science has gone above and beyond to deliver our exciting, hands-on science programming to students who are living amongst this frightening epidemic. While fear and paranoia are rampant, HT2 Science is delivering an educational diversion. The shopping malls where students would traditionally consume our programming have been closed to the public, but this hasn’t stopped HT2 Science from providing an immersive science experience.

HT2 Science is working hard to prepackage, and hand deliver all supplies to our students, the same supplies that students would be using within our STEM centers. As Albert Einstein once said, “the measure of intelligence is the ability to change,” and our franchisees are adapting to overcome this crisis. Once students have received their experiment materials, they are able to access our scientist’s instruction via video recording. Students are guided through the lesson, taught the important vocabulary, and can reach that EUREKA! moment from within a safe, coronavirus-free environment. Students can even join our scientists via video chat to ask questions, receive feedback, and connect live!

Our franchisee’s reworking shows HT2 Science’s dedication to students. By taking the initiative to deliver our programming in such distressing and uncertain times, HT2 Science delivers a sense of normalcy to the children being affected by this crisis. We are committed to the education of High Touch High Tech students worldwide, and the coronavirus is a single hurdle in our profound legacy.

Summer Learning Loss

Summer is fast approaching, and our eye is on the important
topics. What is the true cost of all the time spent away from the classroom?
How can we continue to stimulate and inspire bright young minds, in a way that
feels fun and exciting to both kids and parents?

Research shows that students that stay actively involved in programs that involve physical and mental health exercises have tended to score higher on standardized tests than those who are not engaged in such activities during the summer break. More than that, studies have revealed that keeping students in such beneficial programs may ultimately affect the likelihood of those students to advance beyond the socioeconomic classes that they were born into.

High Touch High Tech aims to make itself available to any
community, organization, or school where there is a need or desire for
educational enrichment. We believe that we can be an asset to students learning
how to interact with scientific concepts, and that learning can be fun.

Not only is it crucial to keep young minds engaged and
learning during time spent away from the classroom, but early involvement in
STEM based education is a monumental factor when considering which students
will go on to get degrees in STEM related fields. Research finds that students
who are interested in STEM fields early on in their education, by 8th
grade, are more likely to graduate with a degree in a related field than those
who performed highly on tests in STEM fields.

High Touch High Tech puts an emphasis on fun, hands-on
methods of learning.  We strive to
deliver exciting programs year-round, helping guide a student’s engagement with
scientific concepts by way of auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learning
methods. This allows us to the opportunity to reach the child where they are at,
through which ever learning style is most suitable to their naturally preferred
learning method.
